Metro v Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB on Sun 06 May 2018 at 11:00
Washington Cricket Club Won by 26 Runs

Match report Metro’s prayers for rain went unanswered as the umpire signalled play and Metro was greeted by a disciplined opening spell - something that is quickly becoming a hallmark of this Washington side. As Ankur extracted pace and bounce from one end, Sameer was his deceptive self from the other end to trouble the Metro batsmen. Within no time, metro was staring down the barrel as the scorecard read 28/5 in 6 overs - Sameer picking up 4 out of the 5 wickets. Sameer was unlucky to not get his 5th as Elango dropped a skier in the 8th over that was identical to the one he had caught in the 6th over. But with 51/5 in 8 overs, it appeared that the job was more than half-way done. The next 2 overs went for 27 as Haider decided to take charge against Viral and Ankit. Having been put down earlier, the dangerous looking Haider got another life as Sameer dropped him off Viral. It got a lot more chirpy on the bleachers and Washington wondered whether their effort in the field was giving Metro a lifeline. Two balls later though Viral deceived Haider in another bad shot and Ankit held on for his dear life to dismiss him for a 25 ball 52. Venkat picked up Soumya the next over and it felt like Part II of the procession was in the making. However, Hammad hit Venkat for consecutive sixes in the 14th over and reduced the equation to 54 off 36 - very manageable in the context of a T20 game. Hammad also got a lifeline the next over when Arjun dropped a simple catch on the fence. The next ball disappeared into the boundary and it seemed like Deja Vu. Three balls later though, Hammad (27 off 15) skied one off Madhu and Ankur took a comfortable catch at long on - much to the surprise of the Metro supporters who had already bet their house on him dropping that one. Washington seemed like favorites at 117/8 in 15 overs to wrap things up but a couple of loose overs that lacked discipline or imagination kept Metro in the chase with 32 required in 18 balls and 2 wickets in hand. Viral brought himself on and Washington got a wicket the very first ball via a run out. More importantly the over only went for 2. Elango cleaned up the last batsman with a gem of a slower ball the next over to give Washington a win and a few reasons to celebrate.
