Match report Today was one of those days where a little bit of luck and a lot more discipline on our side could have seen a different outcome. Firstly on a hot and humid day had the coin flipped one extra turn in the air the toss would have been ours. Unfortunately we were asked to bowl. It was a horrible day in the office as we ended up giving 46 extras which probably tipped the scales from a comfortable run chase to a daunting chase of 274. Due credit to their batsmen for putting a price on their wicket, albeit their unconventional style of batting they picked the bad balls which were quite many and were able to stop/leave the decent/good balls. The pick of the bowlers were Prabhjot and Palash(except his last over). They were able to put the breaks on the scoreboard without giving many extras. The fielding department also did not have the best of outings except for 3 good catches from Kal, Mahesh and Ashutosh. Pratik had a tough time behind the stumps because of a torn wicket keeping glove. There were a few dropped chances and a few half chances that did not go our way. Sreekanth was unfortunate not to get an LBW at a crucial stage which looked out to everyone.

Despite of the bad first half knowing we were playing at Mark Twain Kal's advise to the entire team was preserve wickets irrespective of the score. He said if we had 6 wickets in hand for the last session we would win the game. This was a very accurate game plan. Ashu and Pratik started the innings and looked in good touch as they were middling the ball from ball one. Ashu was really unfortunate as he edged a peach of a delivery to the keeper. He was joined by Chanakya who again looked in good form despite his absence in the T-20 season, but was unfortunately given out Leg before to a ball that was clearly going down leg. The umpire was nice enough to acknowledge immediately that it was a wrong decision but refused to overturn his decision. Pratik, Monil and Krishna got out quickly trying to up the run rate. We got a decent partnership going between Kal and Prabhjot which got us believing that if they could somehow bat 2 sessions we would have a really good chance to win. Kal looked in great form as he was dispatching balls to the boundary at will. He was unfortunate to get out to a good catch at gully of what looked like an authoritative cut shot. Prabhjot steadied the innings as he defended the good balls and put away the bad balls. He lost his wicket soon followed by Kiran and Sreekanth. Palash a good player of spin bowling looked comfortable at the crease but was not able to run much because of a corn on his foot. The day ended with his wicket.

This was the first game of a 12 game season. We should shake this off and come back stronger from the next game. Having said that a takeaway from this game for everyone should be when things are not going in your favor we should be able to reset and stick to the basics. In case of bowling take time and if the need be take off some pace and concentrate on line and length. Batting cut out the risky shot to settle in and take calculated risks later.

Hopefully this game will be our first step where we learn from our mistakes and lay foundations for a successful 40 over season.
