Washington Cricket Club Won by 99 runs

Match report Great day for playing cricket. Sunny and cold winds, light showers early morning.

Total Annihilation of Damascus, great win for Washington.

Brief scores: WCC - 179 All out in 38.4 Overs, Damascus 80 All out in 20 Overs.

Damascus won toss and elected to field. Washington opened the innings with Sameer and Murali, both played cautiously and rotated the strike very beautifully, concentrated on singles and doubles, without going for wild shots. At first break we were 45/0 in 10 Overs. After that both tried to raise some tempo to add quick runs and in the process Sameer(35) got out to a lazy shot, nevertheless was a good start for the team, score 75/1 in 17 Overs. Jey(13) went in as pinch-hitter and played some good shots and scored a big six(only one of the match) but was out soon trying for big hit. Tarun was next and started to rotate strike with Murali, but unfortunately Murali(50+) was tired and run-out. Excellent batting from him. Raj was promoted up the order, but could not last long due to an unlucky decision by the umpire and was adjudged LBW. Viraal went in next and as usual played his signature shots and cleared the boundary twice and at second break we were 90/3 in 20 Overs. Soon after the break Viraal got out to Ibrahim's(4 Wickets) slower dud-missiles. At third break we were around 120/6 in 30 Overs. Pratik went in next to get some more runs, but soon perished and we were in the danger of losing wickets regularly. Anil too did not last long. Palash too tried hard to get some big hits, but could not sustain it and was caught at long-on. We were around 155/8 in 36 overs, Ravi joined Tarun and added some quick runs and good running between the wickets, with 9 balls remaining, Tarun got out LBW and Nikhil too gone soon, we folded up for 179 in 38.4 overs. We should have scored around 220-230 runs, but we need to take this innings as a lesson learned, not to just throw away a good start and singles and doubles are also very important and building partnerships.

Damascus were confident that they have restricted Washington to below 200 runs. WCC opened the bowling with Anil. Their opening batsman were nervous to begin with as Anil bowled some unplayable curve balls. Nikhil started from the other end and got a breakthrough in his very first over of Ankur, excellent catch by Palash down the leg side wicket. In the 3rd over Anil got rid of George, who tried to move his bat away from the ball, but it hit the bat and onto the wickets and george heard the rumblings of the wickets. Back-to-Back wickets put Damasucs on the back foot and heavy pressure on them yielded another wicket for Nikhil and followed by Anil, at first break there were 46/5 in 10 overs. After the break Raj came into bowl his leg-spin and got two wickets one of which was a well-set batsman Toufiq, who was looking dangerous. From 68/6 they folded out for 80 and Viral took two important wickets and finished the match, excellent bowling by Anil(4), Nikhil(2) , Viraal(2) and Raj(2). Good catches by Tarun in the slip and by Anil and Viraal on the outfield.

Overall a superb win and let us maintain the same momentum going forward and next match is Vs Punjab Lions @ Kenmoor on Saturday May 14th @9:30 AM. Our home game, we need to prepare the ground.
