Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB v Columbia CC on Sun 17 Jul 2011 at 10:00 AM
Washington Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Very convincing victory over Columbia by 6 wkts.

Columbia won toss and elected to bat first. Anil and Sharath opened the bowling. Columbia openers were known for big hits from their previous games, Anil and Sharath bowled line and length without giving any width for their batsman, but we did give chances to their batsman and dropped some easy catches. They were batting slowly and preserving their wickets. At 26 overs they were 109/2 and soon the score was 145/2 at 30 overs break. During that time, our fielding was horrible and could not watch catches being dropped and fielders not backing up and giving away easy singles and twos. Drinks break was a blessing in disguise as we had sometime to ponder over the bowling changes and field placements. Sharath came back for his second spell and repeated his last performance as he did with Warriors, by taking wickets in a hurry in his 3 over second spell, his analysis 7-0-27-5, effectively put brakes on Columbia batsman and he was well supported by Viral who was miserly in his spell 6.4-0-15-1. Our bowling was very good this match as we did not give many extras and kept it below 20 runs. Very good achievement. Columbia were bundled out for 196 in 37.4 overs.

We had a match on our cards while chasing and time to prove that we can chase and settle the matter. Sameer and Anil opened the innings and both of them were on fire and Anil(8) could not get going after hitting two boundaries and fell LBW. Sameer(8) also fell soon trying to hit over the top, but could not get elevation and was caught at point. We were 25/2 in 4 overs. Sailesh and Tarun started building up the partnership which was the need of the hour, they played cautiously and rotated the strikes well, Once Sailesh got comfortable, he opened up and smashed to all parts of the ground and scored his maiden 50 runs for Washington. Both put up a partnership of 75 runs, before Tarun(15) got out to a good catch. Viral joined Sailesh and both had good understanding between the wickets and Sailesh fell soon trying to hit the ball out of the park and was caught in the deep for a well-made 79 runs which had 13 fours and one six. Very clean hitting shots. We were still 40 runs from victory and anything can happen in cricket and should not be over-confident, Jeeresh(14*) went in next and after that Viral(52*) made sure we are not in trouble any more by taking 25 runs in 4 balls to effectively seal the match for the team and complete a well-deserved half-century. Final score 198/4 in 29.4 overs, this should keep our NRR healthy.
