Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB v Maryland CC on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 09:30 AM
Washington Cricket Club Won by 55 runs

Match report Well deserved victory by 55 runs.

Bright sunshine and very hot, but unfortunately the wicket was not covered the previous night and showers rendered it soft and soggy. And Mr. umpire George wanted the match to start only after 12 PM.
We did our best by putting the sand and made the pitch playable.

Maryland won the toss and elected to field to take advantage of soggy and low pitch, but we had other plans as we wanted to bat first and take advantage of the 'Hot' weather later in the day. Umpire decided the total overs will be only 32 for each team. Palash and Raj gave way for Tarun and Sailesh(New Player). Kudos to both of them as it shows how strong our Team-Spirit is, our main goal is for the Team to win, whether you are playing or not.

Sameer and Murali opened the innings and we had a slow start as the ball kept low and slow as understandably. Murali(6) got out soon to a low-catch in the slips. Jey(11) went in next and to push the scoring and hit some good shots, but he too fell in the process and at 10 overs break we were 37/2. Ravi joined Sameer(26) and both rotated the strike very well taking one's and two's as hitting boundaries is out of the question due to the wet field and long boundary lines. Sameer soon fell to a return catch. Score 60/3. Tarun came in next and rotated the strike along with Ravi(18), but Ravi again was given LBW and was disappointed with the decision. Both took the score to 84/4 in 20 overs. Sailesh joined Tarun(15), but Tarun got out soon for attempted square-drive and was caught. Viral(35) joined next and played cautiously and watched the good balls and defended well. Once he got into the groove, then he played his excalibur shots and teared into the opposition, Sailesh(27) played very straight shots and shows how good a technical batsman he is made of. Played some very good cover drives and a good addition to the growing list of batsman in our arsenal. He was tired and got out soon. Anil(14) supported Viral very well and both of them ran hard for ones, two's and three's and the last 3 over's fetched us some 30+ runs. And we ended up with 179/7 in 32 overs.

Maryland team looked dazed and stunned by the amount of runs we had put in the last few overs. Their opening batsman had no clue to Anil's and Murali's bowling, as they tried for some big shots and could not connect and eventually we got the first wicket through Anil, courtesy through a catch from Sharath. Anil got the second wicket soon. Their batsman trying to hit all over the place and some brief partnership of around 40 runs between their good batsman, but unable to keep up with the run-rate and at 10 over break they were 40/2. After that their batsman started giving out chances and our folks grabbed them with both hands, wickets fell regularly through good catches from, Ravi(Wicket-Keeper), Sharath, Murali and Palash. Our fielding was excellent, we never gave easy runs, good fielding efforts from Jey, Joseph and Anil. Good bowling from Anil(2), Sailesh(Another bowling option-2 wkts),Sharath(2), Joseph(1) and Viral(2). Our catching is good this season, but our main worry is Mr. Extras, we conceded more than 30 in this match, we need to improve a lot in this area, and hope we can reduce that to below 20 in our next match. We need to practice hard on not bowling those extras. We can definitely contain it, bowl straight and we need not have to do anything extra.
