Windies CC v Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB on Sat 18 Jun 2011 at 10:00AM
Washington Cricket Club Won by 43 runs

Match report WCC bt Windies by 43 runs.

WCC won the toss by default as Windies were not ready by scheduled time. The day was humid and little cloudy, but temps reached 90 degrees.

Sameer and Palash opened the batting, played slowly as Windies bowlers were accurate in line and length and bowled on to the stumps. Palash(3) could not get going as he offered a simple catch to mid-wicket. Sharath(5) went in next and played very cautiously, he too could not get among runs and soon offered a catch to Wkt Keeper. Lost two quick wickets with the score at 18 in 7 overs. Ravi went in next and along with Sameer tried to rebuild the innings. Sameer(24) played some good leg side shots and then was given LBW. He was not sure if it was right decision. Pratik(2) joined Ravi and then got run-out due to a misunderstanding, we were in danger of folding out soon and were 45/4 in 16 overs. Murali came in next and along with Ravi(20) scored one's and two's, unfortunately Ravi got run-out and the pressure became huge on batting side. Breeze and Murali started to play slowly after the 20 over break, and made sure we did not lose any more wicket, both put around 30-35 runs partnership and then Murali(23) fell to innocuous leg-side delivery and gave a simple catch to square leg, he was looking good and well-set. The score was 90/6 and it soon became 97/7 with Anil getting suicidal run-out with a non-existent run as breeze was never interested in getting a run. The highlight of the batting was from our tail who added 40+ runs to take the score to 145 all out in 39.1 overs. Good batting by Breeze(15), Nikhil(15), Srini(9) and Joseph(2), all these guys put up their hand and stayed at the wicket to take 2 or 3 runs each over in the last 10 overs, which made a big difference to our score and ultimately proved the difference between winning and losing.

Though the target was chaseable, we all had the confidence in our bowlers to take 10 wickets on any given day, We all were pumped to support them. Anil got the breakthrough in his opening spell and quickly got the second wicket in the same over to put pressure on windies, this is ideal start we all wanted and then Murali followed up with a beauty to get his first wicket and after that the game was ours to lose, fielders have put up a good show not to give easy runs, the only stumbling block for us was their captain Gary Philbert and Ganga, who were playing some big shots, but the match turning situation was an excellent catch by Murali in the deep, it was going and flying away from him over the head, but he never lost sight of the ball, and plucked it from the thin air, to boost the morale of the entire team. Joseph and Nikhil were deployed into bowling, and immediately Joseph got the big hitting Ganga's wicket and next delivery had Trevor, that almost sealed the match for us. Nikhil pipped in with a solitary wicket, only two more wickets to follow and had some funny moments with 'Batting Guru' who was instructing his batsman to play all the balls straight, and he himself got out trying for big swipe of murali's bowling. Joseph cleaned up the last batsman and it was a well-deserved victory. They folded up for 101 runs in 23.1 overs. Anil(3/38), Murali(2/19),Joseph(3/23), Nikhil(1/8).

Excellent bowling under pressure, but still we gave away un-necessary wides. We still need to control the extras, cut down the pace and let the batsman hit the ball, and we will get our chances to get them out.
