Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB v Punjab Lions CC on Sat 14 May 2011 at 09:30AM
Washington Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Weather was very gloomy and dull for a bright cricket. But nevertheless, our team arrived on time(10 AM) only to find out that the game was postponed to 1 O'clock.
We did practice with tennis ball and had some fun.
Toss won by us as Punjab lions did not show up by 12:40. We decided to field first due to overcast conditions and Sun shine nowhere to be seen.
Anil started with his usual incutters and out swingers and got rich dividends as he snapped three quick wickets, two wickets back-to-back for an impressive start for us. Murali too bowled line and length without giving anything. Score at first break 28/3 in 10 Overs. After that Punjab (Sher Dil) lions started to play some aggressive shots, especially Gurbir(36) who was able to connect some big shots and scored 3 sixers and two fours and in the next 10 overs they scored around 45 runs. Then came in Sandeep who debuted for Washington and bowled a good line and length and decimated their line-up (6-2-7-4), all 4 wickets were cleanly bowled. Supported well by Sameer and Viral who took 1 and 2 wickets. Punjab folks folded up for 98 in 28 overs.
Washington opened with Sameer and Murali, but Murali(2) got out poking to a slower bowl outside off-stump. Jeeresh(14) went in next and played his mad-max and aggressive style of cricket and scored a six and four to rattle and scare lions. But perished to a very high catch on the boundary. Kalyan(4) was the next, tried to play cautiously but unlucky to get a good score for himself and adjudged LBW.
Ravi was next to follow and tried to move the score along with Sameer taking singles and hitting a odd-boundary. Score at first break was 51/2 in 10 Overs. After stitching a partnership of 25 runs, Ravi(13) got out to a harmless bowl and nicked it to keeper. Rajiv(7*) went in next to finish the match. The highlight of the batting chase was Sameer(44*), who played a sheet-anchor role and executed some over the top mid-off boundary shots, which belongs exclusively to him, he played with great grit and determination. We chased down the score in 21 overs.
Excellent win and what a team effort to make it 3 in a row, we have very excellent guys in the team, who can step in anytime and take responsibility. We need to make BIG difference this year and nothing less than winning the 'championship'.
Next game against Vikings @Oxon Hill, June 5th, Time: 10 AM.
Thanks
Ravi
