Jamaica CC v Washington Cricket Club WCC-WMCB on Sun 01 May 2011 at 10:00AM
Washington Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Excellent start to the season. Washington beat Jamaica by 5 Wickets and with 7 Overs to spare.

Brief Scores: Jamaica - 160, WCC - 161/5 in 33 Overs.

Very outcast conditions with dark clouds and passing showers and a bit on the cold side. WCC won toss and elected to field. Murali and Krishna opened the bowling, Jamaica openers started playing BIG shots from the word go. They were 28/0 in 6 overs when the first break came through Murali. After that wickets started tumbling now and then, accurate bowling by Sameer(2) and Taran(1). Two well judged and good catches by Breeze added some sparkle to our fielding. At 20 overs break they were around 70/6 and later the score soon became 92/8. We were right at their throat and wanted to pick the last two wickets in hurry. But that was NOT the case, the last two batsman supported the well set top batsman and they have added around 40 and 30 runs respectively. We have to really FOCUS on the last wickets, this has been our headache for a long-time, we pick the early wickets fast and for some reason we are not that much focused to pick the last batsmen. Overall good bowling effort from Murali(2), Viral(2), Krishna(2) and Srini. Having said that, Jamaica folded for 160 in 39.5 overs.

It started to drizzle again during WCC innings, Murali and Sameer opened the batting, and Murali got out soon to non-lethal slower bowl and popped a simple catch. Palash went in next and played some beautiful shots and trying to score some quick runs with Sameer, but Sameer(12) soon got out by trying to clear the infield and was caught at mid-off. Kal joined Palash, but soon perished to a big shot on the off-side. We were placed precariously at 34/3 in 12 overs. Viral was promoted up the order, and it did started drizzling little heavy and to make a match out of it, we should have scored 80 runs in 20 Overs.
Palash(21) got out through a thin edge to the keeper. Ravi joined Viral and discussed to make sure we had 80 runs in 20 Overs, not only we made it, but Viral(49) scored some 'HUGE' shots most of them were fours and sixes, and the score was 90/4 in 20 Overs. After the break, we started to take singles and doubles, Viral perished to the new bowler trying to hit out of the infield, but he played a GREAT knock to put us towards victory path. Score was 115/5. But we still needed 45 runs when Prateek(32*) joined Ravi(21*), both had a good understanding running between the wickets and scored in singles and doubles, Prateek punished the bad deliveries to the boundary. Never took undue pressure and focused on the target always. And the pair took the team to victory without any hiccups and with 7 over's to spare.

Overall a very good win, next week with Damascus @William Wirt on Sunday 5/8 - Reporting Time 10 AM. Damascus is a batting heavy team and let us focus more on our fielding a lot more, besides bowling and batting.

Thanks
Ravi
